Needham Bible Chapel Annual Conference
Chuck Gianotti will be the conference speaker. Chuck and his wife Mary are from Rochester, New York. Chuck serves as an adjunct instructor at Kawartha Lakes Bible College and is founder and editor of Elders' ShopNotes, a bi-monthly leadership ministry mailing to church elders in North America, South America, and various other countries. He is involved in an itinerate speaking ministry, maintains a web-site containing teaching on various biblical topics (Bible-Equip.org) and produces a weekly e-mail devotional (E-Meditations). Over the years Chuck and Mary have served in camp ministry as well. During the conference, Needham Bible Chapel will be giving away copies of Chuck's book, The Formation of the New Testament.
Saturday's subject is: The New Testament: Credible or Not? Christianity rises or falls on the historical credibility of the Bible, particularly the New Testament documents. It has come under increasingly forceful attacks, with major news and magazine outlets routinely publishing scholarly refutation of the historical basis of the Bible and its stories. Some assert that the Bible as we have it today was the result of a political posturing in the early church that was rife with intrigue, conspiracy, and secrecy. Others see it is a genuine effort by the 2nd and 3rd century church to read back into the very human stories of Christ a miraculous component that never existed in the first place. In such a post-modem (and some would say, post-Christian) culture, many are searching for answer to questions like these:
- Are the New Testament writings historically reliable?
- How do we know those book comprising the NT are authoritative?
- Who decided which documents to include?
- What about the apocryphal, deutero-canonical and Gnostic writings?
This presentation sunimarizes the large volume of available (yet very technical) information on the subject by providing a concise analysis of the facts to help you determine whether the New Testament as embraced by Christians for close to 2000 years is worthy of your confidence.

Lennox - Dawkins Debate in Birmingham, AL
Greg Garrison of "The Birmingham News" reports that the debate was "a lively joust... between Oxford University scholars who took turns driving each other onto the defensive. The exchanges were sometimes sharp and funny when the speakers were allowed to directly address each other. Lennox suggested Dawkins believed that his wife loved him, but it's not scientifically provable. 'Is there any evidence for that?' Lennox said." And at the end of his article Garrison relates that, "Lennox concluded by appealing to his belief in the resurrection of Jesus. 'Atheism is a delusion,' he said. 'If there's no resurrection, the terrorists and fanatics have got away with it,' he said. Dawkins seized on Lennox's ending back at his faith instead of science. 'Having proven some case for a deistic God, you fall back on the Resurrection,' he said. 'It's so petty, it's so trivial. ... So unworthy of the universe.' Dawkins ended the debate there. 'Although we can't disprove there is a god, it is very, very unlikely indeed.'"
Garrison's "The Birmingham News" article on the debate can be read in its entirety at the following link:
Scholars Match Wits Over God's Existence
DVD's of the debate will be offered by the last week of November 2007 by the Fixed Point Foundation and can be ordered at their website: http://www.fixed-point.org

Purpose of this blog.
Slidell and Hurricane Katrina
On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast region of the United States of America including the Slidell, Louisiana area. Katrina's eye passed directly over Slidell, located on the eastern edge of Lake Ponchartrain, north of New Orleans. An estimated 90 percent of homes were either damaged or destroyed. The Weather Service reported that Slidell had sustained winds of 176 mph and gusts of 190+ mph during Hurricane Katrina. In addition, Slidell was hit by a 26' storm surge that devastated much of the city.
Many of the saints who gather unto the Lord at the Slidell Bible Chapel lost everything they owned. However, none of the saints were killed or even injured (most had evacuated on Sunday, August 28, 2005). Recovery is slow and still ongoing (even 7+ months later). Through it all, "...God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of all mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforts us in all out tribulation,"* has "...supplied all our needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."**
The Lord has blessed us abundantly through it all! Not even during the roughest times early on was there any lack for our daily needs. Through His saints the Lord provided in ways that we could never have planned in our human wisdom. The outpouring of love was tremendous from believers all over the world. And their prayers sustained us. The Lord has sent many messengers of mercy (120+ so far!) from all across North America to be tools of reconstruction in His hands.
We have had more opportunities to share the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ since Katrina than ever before. It has become very apparent to many people in this region that the things they had spent their lives on were wiped out in a few short hours. They see the light of Christ in the lives of believers who, while suffering just as they are, are full of "...the peace of God, which passeth all understanding."*** And when they ask us we tell them of the Lord Jesus Christ and His love for them.
Reconstruction of the region will take years. And F.E.M.A. will continue to help us through it all. By F.E.M.A. I don't mean the Federal Emergency Management Agency. No, no, I mean the Father's Eternal Merciful Abundance!
Pray for the saints of the area and their efforts to reach others with the good news that the Lord Jesus Christ is The Rebuilder of broken lives!
